Winter Foods of India

Winter food in India has a lot of variety and most of us crave warm and spicy food. Somehow appetite increases as well. Hot food, rich flavours and warm delicacies are perfect to indulge during the cold season. So here are my top recipes and food that you can enjoy in winter in India.

I don’t know about you but all I want in cold Indian winters is curl up my fingers around hot masala tea and enjoy some crunchy hot pakora on the side. A hot bowl of soup in the evenings along with buttery toast is surely one of the most loved winter delights.

I know winter food is rich but satisfying your cravings and adding a bit of warmth to our daily routine is okay. 

Here are a few Winter season dishes that are an absolute must on our Indian winter food list! 

1- Gajar Ka halwa

The most loved winter recipe Gajar ka halwa is must make dessert in most homes. Piping hot halwa topped with nuts is totally irresistible. You can make it in any season but red carrots in winter are best for making this carrot halwa. We especially wait for winters to indulge our taste buds.

2- Sarso Ka Saag

Sarson ka saag winter special Punjabi recipe that is prepared with fresh mustard green and a mix of other greens. Served with makki ki roti topped with a big fat dollop of white butter and gud(jaggery) on the side this saag is a Punjabi delicacy and awaited the whole year. 

3- Undhiyu

Undhiyu is a Gujarati winter special dish. It takes time to make but the time and effort spent are totally worth it. A lot of winter vegetables, fresh fenugreek and spices go into making undhiyu and It tastes almost heavenly! With poori and shrikhand this makes one incredibly delicious winter meal. On its own, it tastes good and is one of the best healthy winter foods in India.

4- Gonde Ka Laddoo

Gond ke laddu is a nutritionally dense dessert and potent ingredients to fight chilly winters. These ladoo have warming properties and these can be stored for longer periods. Usually, these are made and stored for months during winters.

5- Besan Ka ladoo

Besan ke laddu is a popular sweet made throughout the year. But during winters these rich and indulgent laddus make a delicious energy-rich breakfast along with a glass of milk.

You can’t store them as much time as you can store Gond ke laddoo but every winter you must make a small batch and enjoy this Indian winter dish

6- Panjiri LAdoo

Just like Gond ke laddu, Panjiri is a rich and delicious winter dish that is prepared with a mix of ghee, wheat flour and a lot of nuts. Energy-dense foods like these were made and consumed in large amounts to keep warm in old times.

Even now portion control servings of delicious panjiri are great because it has ingredients with many health benefits and are nutrient-packed.

7- MEthi ka pakora

Winter is the best time for getting fresh greens in India. Make the best use of it with these crispy methi pakora with the best methi of winters. Serve these Air-fried Ragi Methi Pakora with masala chai and enjoy a blissful evening sipping tea and biting into crispy fenugreek pakora.
