But, the second strain is stronger than the first one and it’s not a piece of new news that we need to eat a nutritious diet along with taking precautions like wearing a mask and practise social distancing.

Here are some home remedies that can bolster your immune:

Do include exercising in your daily routine, even the light exercises for 30 to 40 minutes go a long way. If you haven’t started exercising then now is the time to do it.

You can easily follow some simple workouts on YouTube and exercise at home. Exercising improves metabolism which is directly related to boosting immunity.

2. Steam Inhalation:

Steam therapy works by loosening the mucus in the nasal passages, throat and lungs. It’s an effective method to cure the common cold and should be used to be protected against the fatal virus.

You can add mint leaves and caraway seeds to your steam and practise it once a day.

3. Stay Hydrated:

Drinking 8-10 glasses of water throughout the day as it will help flush the toxins out from the body. Also, during these times it’s recommended to drink warm water or add lemon juice to it.

4. Oil Pulling Therapy:

Take one tablespoon of coconut oil or sesame oil and swish it in the mouth for 2-3 times. Spit it off and rinse with warm water. Do it once or twice a day.

Along with benefitting the oral health this therapy helps reduce the bacteria in the mouth and aids in overall health and well-being.

5. Kadha:

Kadha includes various herbs and spices that have irrefutable immunity-boosting properties. It is prepared with a concoction of various herbs and spices like turmeric, ginger, amla, tulsi, lemon, black pepper, aloe vera and cinnamon.

Here are some foods that will help to boost immunity:

1. Turmeric:

This golden spice has innumerable health benefits and it was one of the topmost food items that people started consuming once the pandemic hit. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.

Most people have turmeric in hot water, which isn’t the right way to have it. Instead, boil it in milk and have the haldi doodh.

Curcumin present in it which gives it its distinct colour has an antiviral effect but needs more research to prove that.

2. Yoghurt:

Yoghurt is a natural probiotic and helps in the formation of good bacteria. But, if you have a sore throat irrespective of the cause it might worsen it. However, they are great for boosting immunity.

It is also a great source of vitamin D and it helps to regulate the immune system and is said to strengthen the body’s immune system to fight against diseases.

You should eat plain yoghurt as the flavoured ones have high sugar content. If you want to add some flavour to your plain yoghurt, you can add some fruits, nuts and honey.

3. Natural Anti-Virus Foods:

Tulsi leaves, star anise, garlic and ginger may sound like grandmother’s remedies but are actually effective.

The immunity-boosting properties of garlic can be obtained from its high concentration of sulphur-containing compounds like allicin.

Ginger helps to reduce inflammation and lowers the chances of having a sore throat.

You can make a drink out of tulsi leaves by simply boiling three to four leaves in water. Similarly, you can have a star anise drink, give it two to three boils and it’s done. You can also have ginger and amla juice.

4. Foods with Vitamins:

Vitamin C and vitamin D are the most important to build immunity than other vitamins. Vitamin C is obtained from all the citrus fruits like orange, lemon, amla and others.

Egg yolks, mushroom, oily fish are some of the good sources of vitamin D.

We can do our bit and help the frontline workers by limiting ourselves to the exposure of virus through staying indoors, maintaining social distancing, eating nutritious foods and following the basic hygiene practices.
